Castles of Bellinzona (Castelgrande Interventions)

Between 1981 and 1991, Aurelio Galfetti reframed Bellinzona’s medieval fortifications as contemporary public infrastructure. Rather than restoring “as found,” he cut new circulation through the bedrock—tunnels and a glass elevator—linking the old town to the acropolis of Castelgrande. Minimal, precise insertions in fair-faced concrete and steel establish terraces, ramps, and galleries that clarify topography and choreograph movement while remaining reversible and legible as of their time. The project turns defensive walls into a civic landscape, enabling daily shortcuts, panoramic promenades, and a compact museum carved within the rock. It is a strategic urban project disguised as heritage work, later underpinning UNESCO inscription.

1981至1991年，奥雷利奥·加尔费蒂并非“修旧如旧”，而是把贝林佐纳的中世纪防御体系重释为当代公共基础设施：在岩体中开凿的隧道与电梯，将老城与卡斯特尔格兰德高地直接相连；以节制的清水混凝土与钢构作最小、可逆的嵌入，搭接台地、坡道与展廊，既理清地形秩序，又编排行走与观展。防御工事因此转译为市民景观——日常捷径、环城散步与嵌入岩体的紧凑博物馆并存。项目把遗产保护从静态修复转向主动的城市策略，并为其此后列入世界遗产奠定基础。
