Hans Asplund's winning competition design, titled "Diagonal Balance," divides the building into three distinct volumes: a funnel-shaped auditorium wing, an office tower, and a low horizontal block, all seamlessly merged without visible joints. The interior showcases meticulous craftsmanship with custom-designed lighting fixtures, mushroom-shaped columns, and carefully selected materials including Oregon pine, marble, and aluminum. Natural light penetrates deep into the building through strategically placed skylights and a central courtyard. The main auditorium features a vibrant tapestry curtain designed by Asplund and woven by Gunilla Fleming, depicting theatrical symbolism.
