Istituto italiano di Cultura

Stockholm, Sweden

1954~1958

Gio Ponti's Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm is composed of two volumes with a notable sense of lightness. The main volume, housing the primary halls, is elevated on slender pillars, creating a sheltered entrance below. The facade is adorned with Ponti's signature small, diamond-shaped ceramic tiles, giving the surface a textured, non-monolithic appearance. The strategically placed large windows and the ground-floor transparency, clearly visible in photos, further enhance this floating quality, making it stand out among the surrounding buildings.
